- IAE Membership

The membership of the Academy shall consist of:

1. The President, the President elect and Past Presidents of The Institution of Engineers of Ireland, trading as Engineers Ireland.

2. Those Chartered Engineers who are included on the Roll of Honorary Fellows of The Institution of Engineers of Ireland.

3. Chartered Engineers of The Institution of Engineers of Ireland or Chartered Engineers resident in Ireland who by virtue of distinction and achievement are elected members of the Academy.

4. Chartered Engineers who are not Irish residents but whose contribution to engineering is recognised by the Irish profession as meriting election.

5. The members of The Academy shall normally be Chartered Engineers and Fellows of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland or Fellows of other Institutions with which the Institution of Engineers of Ireland has bi-lateral agreements for mutual recognition of the title of Chartered Engineer.

6. Additionally, up to 10% of the Fellows of The Academy may be elected from disciplines other than engineering under such conditions as the Council of The Academy may deem appropriate from time to time and where the individuals concerned have reached an exceptional level of competence and distinction in areas which are related to the advancement of engineering science.

7. The total membership of the Academy shall not exceed 125 members, which figure may be revised subsequently by resolution of the Council of the Academy at five yearly intervals.

Membership

Membership of the Academy is limited to one hundred and twenty five, and nominees for membership must be shown to possess demonstrable achievement and eminence in their careers. Election to The Academy is recognised as a significant appreciation of such achievement and eminence.
